Purple Carrot has been delivering plant-based meals to doorsteps since 2014. I am a huge fan of Purple Carrot’s meal delivery service. I have tried various other food delivery services, but I have found that Purple Carrot has the freshest produce and more unique eats. In recent years, Purple Carrot started offering prepared meals to offer a more convenient option for anyone on the go or even for someone (like me) who needs a break from cooking.
Ordering
Last week, I put Purple Carrot’s prepared meals to the test. I decided to choose six meals for the week. When selecting the meals, Purple Carrot will curate a few recommendations, but you have the option to select which meals you prefer. Here are the meals that we ordered:
- Roasted Vegetable Pilaf
- Mac N’ Cheese
- Elote-Styled Corn
- Pesto Corn Skillet
- Seitan Cabbage Stir-Fry
- Thai Peanut Noodles
Cooking
The prepared meals are as easy as it gets! They take two minutes to cook and then two minutes to cool. The meals are perfect for anyone who is working and on the go. The nutritional information is included on the top of each prepared meal. It consists of all of the ingredients, so you know exactly what you are eating.
Ranking: Flavor & Freshness
Overall, I found most of the meals to be rather enjoyable. There were a few we found a bit bland. Let’s go through the meals, shall we?
My husband ate the Seitan Cabbage Stir-Fry meal as it had the most calories. He was home at the time, so I was able to join in on the taste test. This meal was probably my favorite, and my husband even said he’d eat this again. This meal was a win for me! Here is how I would rate it out of 10:
- Flavor: 9
- Freshness: 8
- Overall: 8.5
My next favorite meal would be Mac N’ Cheese. My husband would say otherwise, as he is not a fan of cheese (vegan or not). Mac N’ Cheese can be harder to find in easily prepared meals, so I was excited about this one. It didn’t disappoint. Here is how I would rate it out of 10:
- Flavor: 8
- Freshness: 8
- Overall: 8
For the third ranking, I am going with the Pesto Corn Skillet. I did not personally get to taste this one, but my husband spoke relatively highly of it. Plus, it sounds delicious. Who isn’t game for a vegan pesto? Here is how my husband would rate it out of 10:
- Flavor: 8
- Freshness: 7
- Overall: 7.5
The Roasted Vegetable Pilaf dish was very flavorful and packed a powerful punch. I was surprised at how well the vegetables in this dish kept their form. I love powerful and unique flavors, so this wasn’t an issue, and I enjoyed this meal. Here is how I would rate it out of 10:
- Flavor: 7
- Freshness: 7
- Overall: 7
My expectations for the Elote-Styled Corn were high because I had cooked the meal kit version by Purple Carrot. The recipe fell short for me, and I felt that the rice was hard and the dish needed more overall flavor. Here is how I would rate it out of 10:
- Flavor: 7
- Freshness: 6
- Overall: 6.5
The Thai Peanut Noodles meal was not my favorite. It was probably my least favorite, and I didn’t finish the meal. I am known for finishing my meals, and this one I was. Here is how I would rate it out of 10:
- Flavor: 6
- Freshness: 5
- Overall: 5.5
Final Thoughts
Purple Carrot is an excellent service for anyone new to being vegan. It’s also great for long-time vegans who need a break from cooking. Their meals are perfect for anyone wanting to try new flavors! The best part is that you have 15 single-serving meal options every week. You can sign up for the prepared meals here and receive $30 off your first order if you’re interested!
